Oh what a feeling!

As a small not-for-profit charity that is volunteer administered, simply surviving in the tough times that we face today is a challenge in itself. In looking at the most recent ACNC Australian Charities Report for 2021, small charities (revenue of less than $250,000 annually) make up 65% of the sector. However, the 50 largest charities by revenue account for 1/3 of the entire charity sector. This makes it very challenging for a charity like ours.

To further extend how challenging things are, the report indicates that nearly half of the sector revenue (47%) is derived from Government funding, through grants and other funding. Until very recently MDT has not been a beneficiary of this type of funding, relying solely on funds from donations and events. To show how difficult this is, the ACNC report shows that revenue raised from donations was just 7%.

With all of this in mind, we are blessed to have some wonderful long-term corporate supporters who have made huge contributions to what we do. The Hobart-owned and based dealership, Co-Op Toyota are at the very top of that list at MDT. Be it supporting golf days, quiz nights and other events, they are always in full support of our brand. Last year in discussions with the team at Co-Op Toyota, we outlined our plan to push towards being in a position to have an employee in the business to enable us to take our services to a higher level for those families we support. To support this push, they recently came to the party with a huge contribution, a brand new Toyota Corolla Hybrid vehicle. This vehicle was recently handed over to MDT and is in readiness for our goal of an employee, which is now just weeks away.

To the amazing Costelloe family, we would like to say a huge thank you.
